I ventured out for a quick overnight camp at Hackley Bay, just north of Aberdeen. I walked in from the Forvie Nature Reserve. The walk was pleasant, with wonderful sea views and was pretty flat and easy going. There are a couple of smalls inclines as you get closer to Hackley Bay.
Wild camping at Hackley Bay, Aberdeenshire
The bay itself is beautiful and I had it to myself for the night, a very tranquil area with several species of sea birds dotted about. I enjoyed smoked sausage egg-fried rice for dinner and then settled in to do some astrophotography with my Dwarf 2 smart telescope.
I was also fortunate enough to witness a near all-night showing of the Northern Lights, which I captured in a time lapse video using a GoPro.
It was a fantastic spot for an overnight camp and I will add Hackley Bay to my yearly list of camping spots.
