Why Is Eilean Donan Castle Famous?
Eilean Donan Castle is, arguably, Scotlands most famous castle and probably the most photographed castle in Scotland. It is very picturesque and set in a beautiful location, which is perhaps why it is so famous. It is also on a very popular tourist route to the Isle of Skye.
The castle, as it stands today, was completely rebuilt in the 1920’s after the original castle was destroyed in the 17th century. A castle, of one type or another, has stood on the island from the 1200’s.
Where is Eilean Donan Castle Located?
Eilean Donan Castle is situated on the A87, approximately 1km south of Dornie. There is plenty of parking, toilet facilities, a cafe and you can go on a castle tour.
