Smoked Sausage Egg-Fried Rice Recipe

This is a perfect one-pot Trangia recipe which goes down well on any camp. Smoked sausage is one of the most versatile camping ingredients and when combined with ready-cooked rice, an egg and some sesame oil makes for a fantastic, yet super-simple, egg fried rice.

This smoked sausage egg fried rice recipe takes less than 10 minutes to cook and is so easy it barely requires a recipe at all. It’s mainly just a case of chopping some ingredients and assembling the meal!

It is also surprisingly filling and features all the main food groups. Perfect on a chilly autumnal evening camping in the wilds.

A quick and easy recipe for Smoked Sausage Egg Fried Rice on a Trangia camping stove

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tsp sunflower oil
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 clove garlic (chopped)
  • 1 smoked sausage
  • 250 g cooked rice
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 50 g frozen peas
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 4 chopped spring onions (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Add the onion, garlic & oil to a pan. Cook on a medium heat.

  • Chop the smoked sausage into half-rounds and add to the pan.

  • Once the sausage is browned, add the rice & peas.
    250 g cooked rice, 50 g frozen peas
  • Beat the egg and sesame oil together. Make a well in the rice and add.
    1 egg, 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Keep the mixture moving until the egg & rice is cooked.
  • Serve when ready and top with the sliced spring onions.

Notes

A pouch of ready cooked microwave rice works well, as does rice cooked at home and placed in a zip-lock bag.
Feel free to experiment with ingredients.  Any processed meat such as Spam will work.  Sweetcorn, sliced peppers, mushrooms, brocolli etc can also be added.
Top Tip – Crack the egg at home and place in a small bottle with the sesame oil.  This saves the hassle of transporting the egg to your camping destination.
